I decided that I better start blogging before I go off to school to teach... It seems like when I get home, "stuff" keeps happening and I never get to my beloved blog. So, I'm going to make it a first of the morning thing!
Here's a really easy way to mirror image your cool pocket design (to get identical left and right back pockets!!) This tip is complements of one of the wonderful ASG members that was in my Ready-to-Wear Jean Tips seminar at the conference.
Start by creating a design that you want to stitch on your jeans... This is my "signature" design.
Place a piece of nylon tulle over the template. Use scotch tape or pattern weights to hold it still!
Trace over the design with a Sharpie marker. Because the tulle is so fine, the ink from the Sharpie will get on both sides of the tulle to create a template that you can use on both sides!
Here's what the tulle looks like after the design is traced. Make sure that you trace the edges of the pocket and the center line--That will make it easy to center the tulle on the pocket!
To use your tulle template, simply position it centered on a pocket piece (before you press the edges back). Use a chalk marker to trace over the design. (Storage Tip: Because the tulle is so fine, you can easily lose it. Pin it to the back pocket pattern piece when you're done tracing!)
After you trace the first pocket, flip the tulle over and trace the second--A perfect mirror image of the first!!
Neat idea! Thanks for sharing.

That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing it :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so useful, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting-this is very useful. If...er...when I get down to a size where I am willing to invest effort in jean fitting and sewing, I'm going to cheat with this. I'm going to digitize my pockets and mirror-image the electronic way ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone.... and Meredith, that's a great way to do it too! Jen :)
