Hi Everyone. We had such a great time at the Expo, our booth was so busy and Gail was teaching so much that I didn't get to see much... But I did catch up with some old friends and I even made a few new ones too! I would like to thank my Mom, Pam and Mary Beth for their help (they were fantastic!) Also, I would have never finished everything before hand if John didn't help with kits and such ....Thank you too!!!!
So, I'm going to do a two part post of my little expo highlights. I want to dedicate Part I to a very talented wearable arts designer--June Colburn. Her booth was right across the row from us. If you like Asian inspired wearable art and quilting projects, you definitely have to check out her stuff...she's incredible!
My Mother was eyeballing one of her jackets that she had hanging in her booth--The Asian Quarters Jacket. ...Here's a photo of it....
I bought the pattern so I can surprise Mom with a "mother/daughter" sewing day! (soon).
I thought the Foo Lion Quilt was pretty amazing...
...And she had beautiful Kimono fabrics. If you look closely you can see that the collections of fabrics are held together by a paper header with Asian writing on it. These papers are vintage ledgers used by accountants back when they were still counting with abacuses! Very cool
Ok, so here's a photo of June (she was nice enough to let me take her picture!) ...I have a little story to tell you.
Back when I entered my first Bernina Fashion Show in 2003 I was very impressed with one of the other entries that year--A jacket designed by June Colburn. I didn't have a chance to meet June, but I knew who she was because we carried her patterns in the store I was working in at the time. I've always loved Asian inspired designs, and I really liked the way she used different fabrics and colors to create her entry entitled "Heian Harmony"....
When I realized that it was June sitting in the June Colburn booth across from me, I was so excited to finally meet her! ...and it was such a pleasure too. She had so many interesting things in her booth--hand made papers, silk screens, fabric paints, patterns and kimono fabrics and vintage garments. Definitely a great source to check out! And, the best part is I made a wonderful new friend.
BTW, here's a quick snap at my entry for that year.... (it's amazing how time flies by!!!!)
I'll post the rest of the Worcester wrap-up tomorrow!

Very interesting garments. Your mom will be thrilled to have one of these jackets. What a nice surprise.
