Gibbs Fashion Show -- Run for the Roses was a Fabulous Hit!

... and a great end to my first week of teaching.  I forgot how much I love it!  I have six students in my class and they are all working hard, learning how to use the industrial machines and making friends with their dressforms.   I forgot how fast those machines are... I'm going to have to practice too!

Friday I was lucky enough to be able to attend the dress rehearsal for "The Run for the Roses" fashion show.  The event was held at the Wadsworth Atheneum at the same time as the 29th Annual Fine Arts & Flower Show.   There were 20 talented designers--Gibbs alumni and a couple of students.  The designers created a one-of-a kind dress (and one very cool pant suit!) paired with a floral themed hat.  Each model was ready to step out in grand style at the Kentucky Derby!

At the rehearsal some of the garments still needed a little work...  That brought back memories for me, I can remember stitching right up to the last minute before my fashion show!  The models practiced walking the "runway" around Avery Cout (which was decorated with dressforms embellished with colorful tulle skirts.

On Saturday, I arrived early and helped behind the scenes where Gibbs' students were busy doing hair and makeup.  There were stylists on hand to collaborate with designers to make sure each outfit was perfectly put together.  When I finally made my way to Avery Court to set up my camera to shoot video, the room was packed...  Standing room only!  And, it went off without a hitch!

...After the fashion show attendees had the opportunity to chat with the designers and models.  Then it was off to an elegant tea party...  can you tell which roses are real and which are a yummy confection??
